Fencing Kit

The Club spends a significant amount of money each year on buying new items and replacing broken or lost kit.

Use of club kit during first year of training

The Club will provide kit as necessary to fencers during their first year of training at no additional charge (with the exception of body wires and long socks which should be purchased by fencers).  Please note kit cannot be taken home.  Thereafter we would expect all fencers to own their own kit – breeches, underplastron, chest plate, jacket, lame, glove, weapons and mask.  We appreciate that this is an expense, however, birthdays and Christmas are great times to build up a fencer’s kit.

Second hand kit is a good way of keeping costs down.  We advertise club members kit for sale by private purchase

Kit Hire charges

If you would prefer to hire kit from the Club the annual cost of this is as follows:

Jacket, Mask or Breeches                   £10 per item
Glove or Underplastron                     £5 per item

Hired kit will be the responsibility of the fencer and will be retained by the fencer during the year.  All kit borrowed must be signed out.  All items should be washed and returned prior to the end of June and signed back in again.  Please speak to Rob (coach) if you would like to hire kit.

Please note we are unable to hire body wires, long socks and chest plates.

Borrowing kit for competitions

There is no charge for borrowing spare kit for competitions.

Where fencers need to borrow kit, including weapons & body wires for competitions, there is a procedure for managing this process.  Kit can only be taken from the Club between 7.45 and 8pm on a Wednesday evening, and must be returned to Club by 6pm on a Monday evening.  Any kit borrowed must be signed out and signed back in again.

Please note that kit may not be borrowed for use at other Clubs or National Training Academies, if club kit is used for this purpose all broken or damaged weapons must be replaced.
