Hi! I am Mila Maina, a foil teacher at the Dunblane fencing club. Since I’ve just joined this (fantastic) coaching staff, I'd like to introduce myself telling you a bit more about my past as an athlete and my present as a student.
I was born in Italy 19 years ago, and not much time later, at the age of 6, I fell in love with fencing. After a few years I started to take it more and more seriously, giving all my effort and training everyday. I begun to take part to national competitions at the age of 10 and I started competing on an international level at the age of 15. After good results came I was asked to join the Italian national team and this gave me the opportunity to travel around Europe quite a lot and to grow both as an athlete and as a person. In 2016 I parallelly started to coach foil in my club in Turin , and I had the pleasure to organise the phisical and technical preparation of many pupils. That’s when I realized my great passion for coaching.
Then…what a big change!
I came to Scotland last September and I couldn’t be happier with my choice of starting to study economics and politics at the University of Stirling. I was told about Charity and the Dunblane fencing club by a friend at uni, and I immediately thought about the possibility to join the club.
I love the fair and warm environment of the club and I’m thankful to Charity, to the coaching staff and to the pupils for allowing me to be a part of it.
The job we are doing is already giving me great satisfaction, and Scotland’s postitive energy is pushing me to build new projects, new objectives and, why not, new dreams.
Thank you very much for reading. I hope to see you all soon!
